4 killed in U.S. airborne operation in N. Syria

DAMASCUS, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — Four people were killed, and a woman was injured on Sunday in a U.S. airborne operation in the village of Shanina in northern Syria’s Raqqa province, according to local Sham FM radio.
The operation, conducted by U.S. forces stationed in Syria, targeted the rural village early Sunday morning. The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed, and the reason for the operation remained unclear.
The U.S. military has maintained a presence in northeastern Syria, primarily to combat remnants of the Islamic State (IS) and to support the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces. However, their activities in the region have often drawn criticism from the Syrian government.
