Man, 67, caught with 9.5kg of heroin in Singapore’s largest single haul so far in 2024

SINGAPORE: An island-wide anti-drug operation that took place over 12 days resulted in the largest single seizure of heroin to date in 2024, said the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) on Friday (Aug 23).
A 67-year-old Singaporean man was caught with 9.5kg of heroin on Aug 14. Officers also found 2.6kg of Ice (also known as crystal methamphetamine), 4,182 Erimin-5 tablets, 171g of methamphetamine pills, 18g of ecstasy, five bottles of methadone and more than S$25,000 in cash.
CNB estimated the drugs to be worth a total of S$1.4 million (US$1.1 million). The drug bust was part of an operation from Aug 12 to Aug 23 that was carried out in areas including Bukit Timah, Ghim Moh, Mountbatten and Hougang.
In total, the anti-drug agency arrested 113 suspected drug offenders and seized various drugs worth an estimated S$1.54 million, including about 9.8kg of heroin, 3.3kg of Ice and 620g of cannabis.
The youngest of those arrested was a 15-year-old Singaporean boy, suspected of drug abuse. He was found with a “small amount” of Ice on Aug 19, said CNB. 
Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of another 15-year-old Singaporean boy for suspected drug trafficking. Both are students, the bureau added.
“This is a stark reminder to all, that we must not lower our attention on the teenage drug situation. We must continue to engage our youths on the topic of drugs and the harm drugs can cause,” said Deputy Assistant Commissioner Saherly Limat, director of enforcement at CNB.
“Parents have a key role to play in preventive drug education, lest they end up getting information via dubious channels and start sliding down the slippery slope of drugs.
Investigations into all the arrested suspects are ongoing.
